Paint a Light Bulb
A painted light bulb can do wonders to a room - it can add color or fun,it's a great conversation starter (guests will always ask you about your unusual light bulb), and it is very easy, cheap and fun to make!
Steps
- Make sure you have everything you need before you begin.
- Choose a room. This choice is obviously not obligating (you can always put the painted bulb in different rooms), but you can get better results if you paint the bulb for a specific room.
- Check to see if the light bulb you want to paint actually works. You can do it by screwing it in any light socket around.
- Unscrew the bulb and paint away!
- you can use permanent markers or glass colors to paint your bulb.
- Use lighter colors so that the light can still shine through.
- Don't use too many coats of paint, or the light will not be able to penetrate the paint.
- Screw in your painted bulb, but remember to turn off the light first.
- Finished.
Tips
- Consider the brightness of the light bulb - a bulb under 75W might make the room too dark after it's painted.
- Keep in mind that bright colors such as yellow are significantly more transparent and less noticeable when the light is turned on.
- Think about the room:
- If there are pictures on the wall, try to keep that area on the bulb clear.
- Don't paint small details, it won't show unless the room is very small.
- You can also paint only the upper part of the bulb, that way the paint is shown on the ceiling!
- Check to see if the bulb works before you begin painting.
Warnings
- You will find the permanent markers to have a very strong smell. Work outside or with an open window!
- Be careful where you put the bulbs while you work - you don't want anyone stepping on them!
- If you have a lampshade, be careful not to put a light bulb that's too strong, it might scorch it.
