Patch Your Old Blue Jeans
Patching is a lot of fun! It's a creative process.
Steps
- Choose the jeans you want to patch. You don't necessarily need a hole in your jeans to add a patch. Mend a hole with needle and thread prior to applying the patch.
- Decide upon the fabric. Cotton fabrics, plain or print, are readily available. Durable fabrics are great for knees. Recycle fabrics from your favorite old clothes.
- Decide upon the design. Make patches in the shape of a square, star, heart, teardrop, etc.
- Cut patches using scissors or pinking shears. Pinking shears will create a cute zig-zag along the edge of the patch.
- Decide upon a finished edge. Leave the edges of your patch free to fray or turn the edges over twice.
- Apply permanent fabric glue to the back of the patch with a Q-tip. Apply it evenly on all edges as well as in the center.
- Place the patch on your jeans and let the glue dry.
- Add stitching around the edges of the patch for reinforcement, if desired. Stitch by hand, with a needle and thread, or use a tight zig-zag stitch on a sewing machine.
Tips
- Liquid Stitch is a permanent fabric glue. It can be found at craft and fabric stores.
