Plane a Boat With Trim Tabs
Template:Stub When the water is not rough and you're looking to get someplace a little faster than usual, you should plane your boat. What this means is controlling the trim tabs to push the boat above the water and make it go faster.

- Start the throttle and get the boat going to 15-20 knots.
- Raise both twin tabs equally until you feel less resistance on the bow of the boat.
- Increase the throttle to desired speed.
- Use the left and right trim tabs to control the bank of the boat and keep it from tipping over.
- When you want to stop planing, lower the trim tabs and simply slow the boat steadily.
Tips
- If you do want to plain, you need to be going at a decent speed.
Warnings
- If the water is rough, you should not plain.
- NEVER plain if it is windy or if the waves are coming broadside.
