Port Forward/Open Ports on a Linksys Router

How to set up a Linksys router to port forward/open ports.

Steps

  1. Open your browser.
  2. Clear the address bar and put in: 192.168.2.1
    • If unable to load, type 192.168.1.1
  3. Keep the username blank and put "admin" (no ""s) for the password.
    • Unless you have a custom login
  4. Select the Applications & Gaming tab.
  5. Click Port Range Forward if not already selected.
  6. Enter ports to be forwarded, choose the protocol, choose the address
    • Usually 192.168.3.100 or 192.168.4.100
  7. Click enable.
  8. Save.



Tips

  • Port forwarding and opening ports are the same thing.

Warnings

  • NEVER OPEN A PORT FOR SOMETHING/SOMEONE UNLESS THEY ARE A TRUSTED SOURCE.
  • MAKE SURE YOU'RE OPENING THE CORRECT PORTS AND PROTOCOL.
  • DO NOT OPEN RANDOM PORTS, THIS COULD BE A SERIOUS SECURITY ISSUE.
