Port Forward/Open Ports on a Linksys Router
How to set up a Linksys router to port forward/open ports.
Steps
- Open your browser.
- Clear the address bar and put in: 192.168.2.1
- If unable to load, type 192.168.1.1
- Keep the username blank and put "admin" (no ""s) for the password.
- Unless you have a custom login
- Select the Applications & Gaming tab.
- Click Port Range Forward if not already selected.
- Enter ports to be forwarded, choose the protocol, choose the address
- Usually 192.168.3.100 or 192.168.4.100
- Click enable.
- Save.
Tips
- Port forwarding and opening ports are the same thing.
Warnings
- NEVER OPEN A PORT FOR SOMETHING/SOMEONE UNLESS THEY ARE A TRUSTED SOURCE.
- MAKE SURE YOU'RE OPENING THE CORRECT PORTS AND PROTOCOL.
- DO NOT OPEN RANDOM PORTS, THIS COULD BE A SERIOUS SECURITY ISSUE.
