Program a Comcast Remote

Are you tired of having to keep track of three different remotes just to watch some TV? Programming a Silver Remote

The silver remotes are the classic Comcast remotes, and can control virtually any of your devices. The remote will have either a red or gray OK/Select button in the middle. The color of this button will determine which code you will need to use. It is auto-programmed to work with your Comcast set-top box.

TV

  1. Turn on TV. The TV needs to be on in order to connect the remote to it.
  2. Press and release "TV" button. This activates the TV function on the remote.
  3. Press and hold the "Setup" button. Wait until button light blinks twice.

  5. Use your remote. When linked correctly, your remote will be able to change the TV Volume, Channel, and toggle Mute. You will need to press the TV button on the remote in order to control TV functions.

DVD/Blu-ray Player

Programming the XR2 Remote

This is the newer version of the Comcast remote designed for DVR and HD boxes. It can be identified by the black color and "All Power" button at the top of the remote. This remote can function with TVs and audio equipment, but not with DVD/Blu-ray players. It is auto-programmed to work with your Comcast set-top box.

TV

  1. Turn on the TV. The XR2 can't connect to the TV unless it is turned on. There is also no need to press a "TV" button before starting.
  2. Press and hold the "Setup" button. Hold until the "All Power" button changes from red to green.

Programming the Digital Transport Adapter Remote

  1. Turn on the TV you want to program. Unlike the other Comcast remotes, the Digital Transport Adapter Remote can only be programmed to work with a TV. It is auto-programmed to work with your Comcast set-top box.
  2. Press and hold the "Set" button. Hold until the red light on the remote flashes twice.

  4. Search for an unknown code. If none of the above codes work, and you can't find it online, you can use the remote to search for a code.
    • Turn on the TV.
    • Press and hold the "Set" button until the red light flashes twice.
    • Press 9-9-1. The red light will blink twice again.
    • Point the remote at the TV. Press the "CH +"" button repeatedly until the TV turns off. you may need to press the button many times to reach your code.
    • Press the "Set" button to lock your code into the remote. Your remote will blink twice.

Tips

  • All three remotes are preprogrammed to control the digital cable box. The silver remotes are also preprogrammed to work with RCA TVs and VCRs. If you have an RCA brand television and/or VCR, you may not need to program your remote.
