Put the Top Back up on a Jeep TJ

The top can be affected by many things. For instance, if you are somewhere that is cold or had a cold snap go through, or if the top is fairly new, you will find that it is slightly smaller than what it should be and can be a pain to put back up.

Steps

  1. Understand that there many parts to a soft top. Two important parts are the back flaps that you place in the rear corners of the jeep and the front that connect to the windshield (probably the part you are having problems with.)
  2. Consider the source of the problem. When having trouble connecting the front part mentioned above, it may be because you have attached the 'easier-to-attach' rear flaps also mentioned above, and the top has shrunk a bit due to it being cold or it is just a newer top that hasn't yet stretched out.
  3. Remedy this problem. Put the front part on the windshield first, but don't latch it all the way!
  4. Put the hooks into the slots on the windshield piece but don't latch it further. Go to the rear, put the rear flap in place.
  5. Put in the windows and connect the weatherproofing flaps above the driver and passenger doors. Once all of that is complete, then and only then, should you latch the front hooks on the windshield.
