Record Television Shows With a Cox Digital Cable Box

A Cox Digital Cable Box will allow you to record shows. Though similar to a DVR, recording show requires different operations to work correctly. Follow these steps for successful show recording.

Steps

  1. Make sure that the Cox Digital Cable Box is properly connected to your television and make sure that the batteries in your remote work properly.
  2. Once everything is situated, turn on both your television and your Cox Digital Cable box by pressing the power button (either manually or with your remote).
  3. Next, locate the Guide Button on your remote. This button is located near the center of your Cox Digital Cable Remote. (It's on the bottom left corner where the big, circular arrow buttons are.) Once you locate it, press the button.
  4. Once you hit the Guide button, a television guide should pop up on your television screen. Find your television show by scrolling through the television guide. You can scroll through the television guide by pressing the numbers that correspond to the television channel number or by navigating with the arrows found at the center of the remote. By scrolling through the guide you should accomplish:
    • Finding the Television show you want to record
    • Locating the time you want to record the television show.
  5. Your television show should be highlighted in white on the television guide screen. To record this show, press the record button (located on the top left area of your Cox Digital Cable Remote) or press the "select" button (This button is in the center of the remote in between the 4 arrows)
  6. If you hit the record button, the confirm recording screen should pop. However, if you hit the select button, the future program options screen should show. Navigate through the future program options screen by pressing the "up" arrow button on the remote until you highlight the "Record" option. Once this is highlighted, press the select button again. You now should be located at the confirm recording screen.
  7. When the Confirm Recording Screen is selected, you can either press the yellow triangle button to Confirm the recording or you can press edit the time period you want to record, choose if you want to record that one episode or all of the episodes that day, and you can determine how long you want your Cox Digital Cable Box to keep that television show recording by navigating with the arrows on your Cox Digital Cable Remote.

  9. When you're back home and ready to watch your television show, press the DVR List button located on over the 4 arrows on your Cox Digital Cable Remote.
  10. Your recorded list should show up. Locate your television show by navigating through your list with the 4 arrow buttons on the Cox Digital Cable Remote. Hit the select button.
  11. The select button should bring you to more options, which you can decide whether or not you want to Play, Copy to VCR, Skip, Erase, Etc. your recording.
  12. Highlight what you would like to do (which should be "play"), and hit the select button. Then your program will play, enjoy!

Tips

  • If your television shows are back to back, edit the time frame you want to record your television show. So if it's a two hour special, record the first episode. When you get to the confirm recording screen, change the "end time" slot to the end of the last show. For example: Family Guy has different episodes on from 5:00 to 7:00. One episode is 30 minutes therefore, the recording will end at 5:30. If you change end time slot from 5:30 to 7:00, you will get all four recordings in one recording.
  • If you are watching your recorded television show, you can skip the commercials by pressing the fast forward button on your remote then pressing play when your program starts to play again.

Warnings

  • Make sure you delete the recorded television shows you watched, your cable box can only record a certain amount of hours. Avoid this by not editing the save time on the Confirm Recording list, the show will automatically delete itself in two weeks.
  • Make sure you hit the yellow button to confirm the recording, if not, you will not record anything at all.
  • If you are not using Cox Digital Cable, other steps are needed to record your television shows. Cox Digital Cable is only available in AR, AZ, CA, CT, FL, GA, ID, KS, LA, NE, NV, OH, OK, RI, and VA.
  • Keep in mind that recording shows with a Cox Digital Cable Box, is different from using TiVo or DirecTV. These instructions are for the Cox Digital Recorder Box, NOT the Basic Cox Digital Receiver Box.
