Remember Dance Steps and Be Graceful in Dancing

Being graceful AND remembering steps may sound impossible to some. However, dedication and concentration will help that dream become a reality. Even though it seems that only ballerinas are graceful, dancers from all forms can be very graceful.being graceful dancer like ballerina is not hard as you have to just feel the music and try to get more feeling in the dance

Steps

  1. When the dance steps are shown to you, watch the teacher CAREFULLY. Note how he/she moves their body, and try to copy them.
  2. If possible, get the moves written down or pictured on a sheet of paper for your personal practice.
  3. Practice for AT LEAST one hour per day, every day leading up to the performance.
  4. At rehearsals, pay attention to the teacher. Remember that this is not about you. You should be quiet and listen closely to the instructions given.
  5. About dancing gracefully, concentrate on keeping your movements sharp and precise. In most cases, your dance teacher will be graceful. Watch his/her movements and try to copy them.
  6. Practicing often will also help you be graceful. The better you know a dance, the easier it will be to perform. If you know the steps well, you will have more brain power to focus on moving gracefully.
  7. In your free time, practice walking, jumping, and spinning with grace. (Walking with a book on your head is good practice and if you are dancing ballet make sure your head is not looking on the floor look up and u will look graceful .)
  8. Find a role model whom you think of as graceful. Some examples are Martha Graham or many celebrities. Look at pictures and videos of your role model and try to copy their movements.
  9. Having good posture not only improves your grace, but also helps you dance. Have you ever seen a slouching ballerina?

Tips

  • Count the beats in your head so you know the proper timing of the moves. Also saying what the move is out loud to the right timing helps a lot.
  • You can record yourself/get someone to record your dance, this is a big eye-opener, you can correct yourself.
  • Stretching every night and morning for at least 10 minutes is a good way to get limber and flexible. The more limber your muscles are, the more graceful you will be.
  • Schedule times with someone else who knows how to dance to help you. If it's a duet or trio, schedule to meet somewhere to practice.

Warnings

  • Don't stretch too hard. You can wear out your muscles, and sore muscles aren't graceful.

Things You'll Need

  • Something good to procure is a good pair of shoes. Ballet shoes are a good idea for beginners. (Non-pointe) I prefer canvas, but leather ones are also good. (There are other types of shoes for different dance forms, i.e. tap shoes, sneakers, or clogs)
