Remove a Red Wine Stain from Jeans

Red wine is usually a staple at many celebrations but if there is red wine present at a gathering, it is also bound to end up on someone’s clothing at some point. Red wine stains can be taken out of jeans using several methods, such as the ones listed below.

Steps

Methods for Fresh Red Wine Stains

If you have just spilled red wine on your jeans, acting quickly will ensure you have the best chance of removing the stain.

  1. Get a damp cloth, and use it to blot out as much of the red wine as you can. Be careful to just blot and not scrub, as scrubbing could cause the red wine to soak further into the denim fabric and spread the stain.
  2. Pour a small amount of white wine over the stain. The white wine will counteract with the red wine, diluting and lightening the red pigmentation, allowing for easier removal.
  3. Blot the white wine with a clean cloth.
  4. If the stain is still not completely removed, dampen a clean cloth with club soda.
  5. Blot the club soda onto the stain to further remove it.
  6. [Pour a layer of salt, baking soda or talcum powder on the stain if the club soda didn't remove all of it. The salt will soak up any remaining stain and remove it.
  7. Once the stain is removed, wash the jeans in cold water and laundry detergent.

for Dried/Old Red Wine Stains

Red wine stains on jeans, once dried, are not entirely impossible to remove, but it involves more work and effort than removing the stain before it sets.
