Remove a Wax Potpourri Tart from a Tart Burner

Tarts are a great alternative to regular candles, and smell much stronger than most scented candles. It usually consists of a lower area, typically with a small tea light inside, and an upper tray for your tart. A tart is basically a wickless candle that is strongly scented. Removing old tarts can be a little difficult. Here is a quick solution when you want to change the tart in your tart burner.

Steps

  1. Light the tea light under the burner and melt the tart you wish to remove.
  2. Once it is melted add a little warm water to the wax, being careful not to let it overflow. This will solidify some of the wax briefly; just let that wax re-melt and then continue.
  3. Once all the wax has melted again, blow out the tea light.
  4. Wait until the wax has completely solidified (30 minutes to be safe) then tilt the holder over the sink or garbage, at an angle, and apply pressure to the wax.
  5. Some water will flow out from under the wax. With some fiddling you can remove the tart.
    • Or you can just place the whole thing in the freezer for about 20 min. and the tart will just pop right out.

Tips

  • Alternatively, place tart burner in the freezer for about five minutes, then simply pop the tart out with your thumbs or lightly tap the burner on your counter. Do not leave it in the freezer too long or it may crack when you remove it.
  • Now that you have the tart out, place tinfoil or a foil baking case into the hollow and place new tart in that. This way the tart still melts and when you're finished with it you can lift it out, foil and all.
  • This will remove most of the wax--whatever is left in the burner shouldn't affect the scent of the next tart you use.
  • Save the removed tart for future use in a sandwich bag.

Warnings

  • Never touch hot wax or attempt to pour hot wax out of the burner. You'll either get hurt or make quite a mess.
  • Keep candles and burners out of reach from children.
  • Stay away from electrical equipment when you remove the hardened wax; the water that flows out from under the wax may squirt everywhere.
