Replace a Roof Vent Cover on Your Camper
Here is how to replace a roof vent on your travel trailer / camper.
Steps
- Be careful while getting up on your camper's roof.
- With the vent cover in the open position, locate the screws holding the vent cover on. The cover is screwed on to the crank slide bracket at the the highest point / top of vent cover, opposite the hinge of the vent cover.
- Unscrew the vent cover from the crank slide. Do not leave screws on the camper roof; if you step on screws, this will punch a hole in the rubber roof.
- Pull open the vent cover until the cover hinge opens to allow the vent cover to separate from hinge.
- Take the old vent cover to your local RV supply / parts store to match with the new replacement vent cover. There are different types of vent covers, so make sure to match the old cover with the new. Also, this would be a good time to check and see if you need to replace the rubber seal around vent opening.
- Reinstall the new vent cover. Use steps 1-4 in reverse.
- Clear all tools and old parts from roof. Crank open and close roof vent, check for smooth operation, and lube if needed.
