How to Request an Interview by Email

  1. Research jobs available.
    • Look up jobs available in a field in which you are qualitfied for.
      • This could be done just by searching the internet or by using an assortment of different online job search websites.
  2. Research possible interviewers for the job available.
    • Look up interviewers online using public social media such as Facebook.
    • You can look up your interviewer on LinkedIn,which is a business social media site, or university alumni networks.
      • This search should help you find out the interest of possible interviewers. Try and find any similarities between the two of you, if any.
    • If you find an interviewer for the company you can contact them and ask for an informational interview to get some good information on the company.
  3. Research the company. (This is an example from Walmart)
    • Find out what the company is looking for exactly.
    • Know what they want from an employee and what qualities they want look for most.
    • Know what the company's main goal is and what they do to serve the community.
      • Know what they want the company to be perceived as and how they want the community to be involved or how they help the community as a whole.
  4. Compose a resume and cover letter, if not already completed.
    • The cover letter should include some of the information that you found from the previous step. The cover letter should be aimed towards the needs of the company.
      • Consider all the information given and researched when composing the cover letter.
  5. Apply for job before asking for an interview and make sure you meet all criteria before hand and wait about a week before contacting them with an email.
    • This ensures that they have enough time to review your application.
  6. Start composing an email. Include:
    • What you have to offer
    • Your qualities as a worker and a person
    • Why you want an interview
  7. Attach resume and cover letter to the email and make sure you mention in the email that you have attached your resume and cover letter.
  8. Send email to company.
    • Make sure you don't send it to the companies headquarters. Either find the exactly location in which you wish to apply or send it into the area of the company that does the hiring such as the HR and include the location at which you wish to be considered for.

How to Request an Interview Through Your Cover Letter

  1. Research jobs available that you qualify for.
    • This could be done by both searching the internet or by using a job searching site
  2. Know what the company is looking for.
    • Know what they want and need from an employee.
    • Know who they are as a company and what their main goal is as a whole company and as a single location.
      • You can also call the company to insure that you know their goals and what they want.
  3. Compose a cover letter.
    • When composing a cover letter, make sure that the information is geared towards what the company wants and is looking for.
    • Include some details about the company so they know that you researched them.
    • Make sure all contact information is stated clearly. Include telephone number, times available, and email address. You want to make sure that you are easy to contact.
  4. Add a request for an interview at the last paragraph of your coverĀ letter. This request should be polite and should not be demanding.
    • You don't have to be straight forward in the request, it can sound something like "I am very interested in seeing you as soon as possible and I am available within these next two weeks."
      • The request shouldn't include a specific date, this sounds very demanding.
    • The request for an interview should be very simple and should not take up more than a few sentences. The company shouldn't have to read a whole paragraph to know that you want an interview. It should be short and simple.
    • You can also write something like ""I look forward to learning more about [insert company] needs. Please contact me at your earliest convenience to set up an interview."
  5. Send in cover letter and resume to the company.
    • Send into the HR or hiring area of the company or organization.

Tips

  • Make sure to do quality research and know the company in which you are applying to.
  • If a possible interviewer cannot be found just skip that step and continue with the instruction set.
  • This process may not always get you an interview.
  • If you don't hear back from the company you can call to ensure that they received your resume or email.
