Rig a Sunfish Sailboat

Steps

  1. Attach the sail to the gaff boom assembly by clipping the sail rings through the holes along the sides of the main sheet.
  2. Attach the halyard line to the top of the gaff boom.
  3. Feed the halyard line through the ring of the masthead.
  4. Feed the sheet line through the boom pulley and clamp onto the traveler.
  5. Lay the mast, boom, and sail assembly down onto the middle of the boat.
  6. Launch boat into the water and climb into the hull.
  7. Steady the boat to where you are able to stand safely.
  8. Pin the rudder and tiller to the transom hardware, securing it with the split pin.
  9. Insert the dagger board half way into the 10" diagonal slot above the hull, drop the dagger board fully down when the boat is clear of the bottom.
  10. Step the mast by inserting the bass into the hole at the bow and feed the halyard down and through the deck pulley.
  11. Face the bow of the boat into the wind.
  12. Hoist the sail by pulling the halyard until it reaches the top of the mass head and tie the excess halyard line to the cleat directly behind the deck pulley.
  13. Engage the rudder by pushing the back into the pressure fitting hardware.
  14. Sit down with your feet in the hull with the rudder at your back and pull the sheet tight, pull the tiller towards the windward side and head downwind.
  15. Have fun catching the breeze.
