Rush Effectively in Age of Empires 3

Rushing in AoE3 is when you attack very early in the game(5-10 minutes) in order to kill your ill-prepared opponent.

Steps

  1. Gather starting resource crates, beginning with food, then wood
  2. Use all starting food to create Settlers.
  3. Put all Settlers on hunts and set the gather point for the TC to hunts
  4. Continue queuing Settlers until you have approximately 10-11 queued
  5. Ship 3 Settlers as your first shipment, or with Eastern civilizations, ship 300 food
  6. While aging, shift about 7 Settlers to wood and the rest to food
  7. Once in the Colonial Age, build 1-2 barracks close to your opponent's base (depending on civilization) and begin queuing up both heavy infantry (like Pikeman) and light infantry (like Crossbowmen)
  8. Ship 700 wood for a more powerful rush or ship infantry for a faster rush
  9. Continue training Settlers whenever possible, and put all new Settlers on food
  10. Attack at 5-6 minutes with your army and continue to train heavy and light infantry
  11. Add all new soldiers to your current army and have fun destroying your opponent's town

Musketeers Rush

  1. Collect all Crates fast. Put all villagers to food (hunting using the hunt technique). Build one house and Market.
  2. Try to advance to 2nd Age(200 Gold and an Outpost). You can do this as soon as you have 11+3 Villagers.
  3. Send all the Villagers to wood. During aging, send a villager close to your enemy's base and put him on wood.
  4. Continue collecting wood till you have 450 wood.
  5. Collect Crates. Build Barracks, take the Fencing School Card, and build the outpost near Barracks.
  6. Build houses. Put 4 on gold, 11 on food, and 3 on wood. Keep making Villagers and Musketeers.
  7. Crush your enemy!



Tips

  • Different civilizations may require an alternate strategy.
  • Time is of the essence in rushing.
  • The best race for this strategy are the Ottomans, but you will need switch wood with coin.
  • Upgrade if possible

Warnings

  • Keep your villagers protected!
  • Don't neglect your town when you rush, it's highly unlikely your enemy will be completely destroyed.
  • While attacking keep an eye on the map!! your mind will be off of your town so watch and be ready to garrison villagers (quick hotkeys "t"=town center "B" = town bell will help you be faster
  • Do not use this without heavy customization.
  • Enemy may be ready for rushes, so the sooner, the better.
