Tips

  • Remember that unlike English, which is read from left to right, Hebrew is read from right to left.
  • It is a good way to memorize the words then have someone test you. Strive for better scores and keep practicing!
  • The ch sound is a sound you make at the back of your throat it is a guttural sound.
  • Don't forget that Hebrew has female and masculine.
  • Take notice of the vowels used in transliteration. They may differ from common English.
    • a = ah (as in 'spa')
    • ai = i (as in 'side')
    • e = e (as in 'bed')
    • ei = ay (as in 'play')
    • i = ee (as in 'feel')
    • o = o (as in 'go')
    • u = oo (as in 'zoo')

Warnings

  • Many English words that have multiple meanings have a different Hebrew word for each of those meanings. For example, the English word there at the beginning of a sentence in Hebrew is yeish (יש). The word there at the end of a sentence is sham (שם).
