Say Words in Greek
Greek is a tough language. It's no wonder we say "it's all Greek to me" when we don't understand something. Still, it's a beautiful language, and it's simple enough to pick up some basic words and expressions.

Tips
- Get audio when you're starting out, and do take the time to learn the alphabet. Don't rely on a transliteration to English letters.
- Have fun! A lot of English words have Greek roots. Look for the patterns and relationships as you learn, and both languages will improve.
- Talking with a native speaker can greatly aid in pronunciation.
Warnings
- Be careful with the accents. The two words for "tail" and "urine" are spelled exactly the same but because of the accent they mean different things.
- Greek has gone through various stages. If you are visiting Greece, you should learn modern Greek (the subject of this article). If you want to learn Greek for historical or Biblical study, other forms may be more appropriate. Decide ahead of time and seek lessons on the right type.
