See Infared Light
Have you ever wondered what infrared light looks like? If you have, then all you need to see infrared is a TV remote and a smartphone!
Steps
- Obtain a remote with a visible LED on it. Make sure it has batteries in it and that they are not depleted.
- Grab a digital camera, video camera, camera phone, webcam or any other photography equipment with an LCD screen.
- Turn the camera on, making sure it is in capture mode, and look through the LCD screen.
- Point the LED on the remote directly at the camera lens.
- Hit any button on the remote, except for mode-change buttons such as TV, as those do not emit infrared light.
- You should now see a bluish-white light emitting from the dark panel of the remote, as in the image below. What you are seeing, is infrared light!
Tips
- Make sure the batteries in the remote and the camera are not out of power.
- Certain cameras are not sensitive to infrared light. If this does not work, try a different camera.
- Turn the device which the remote controls off first, so you don't affect it using the remote.
- Some camera cellphones are able to see infrared light.
- You can also see the infrared light in a Nintendo Wii sensor bar. This method can be used to see if your sensor bar is functioning correctly.
