Delete Web History

Need to delete some incriminating internet history? All browsers allow you to quickly clear your browsing history or delete specific entries.

Steps

Chrome

  1. Click the Chrome Menu button (☰).
  2. Select "History". This will open a new tab with your browsing history.
    • Alternately, press Ctrl+H to open this directly.
  3. Check items you want to remove individually. If you only want to remove a few items, check them and click Remove selected items.
    • If you have multiple devices synced to one account, all of your synced history will be displayed.
  4. Click .Clear browsing data... to delete all of your history at once.
    • In the window that appears, ensure that the "Browsing history" box is checked and that "the beginning of time" is selected from the drop-down menu. Uncheck any items you don't want removed.
  5. Browse in Incognito Mode in the future to avoid having your history stored. Incognito mode operates exactly the same as normal browsing except that your actions are not logged in Chrome's history.
    • To start incognito mode, click the Menu button (☰) and select "New incognito window", or press Ctrl+ Shift+N.

Internet Explorer 8 and Up

  1. Click the Gear icon in the upper-right corner.
    • If you don't see a Gear icon, press Alt and click the Tools menu.
  2. Hover over Safety and select "Delete browsing history".
    • You can also access the menu by pressing Ctrl+ Shift+Del.
  3. Ensure that the History box is checked.
    • Uncheck anything you want to preserve, such as Form Data and saved passwords.
  4. Click .Delete. This will delete all of your saved history.
  5. Use InPrivate browsing in the future to avoid having your history logged.
    • To open an InPrivate window, click the Tools menu and hover over Safety. Select InPrivate Browsing from the menu. A new window will open, and any browsing done in that window will not be stored.

Internet Explorer 7

  1. Click the Tools menu. If you can't see the menubar, press the Alt key.
  2. Select "Delete Browsing History".
    • Alternatively, press Ctrl+ Shift+Del to open this menu.
  3. Click the .Delete history... button to delete your browsing history.
  4. Click the .Delete files... button to delete your temporary internet files.

Safari for iPhone, iPad, and iPod

  1. Open the Settings app.
  2. Tap "Safari". You may have to scroll down to find it.
  3. Tap "Clear History and Website Data" at the bottom of the page. Tap "Clear History and Data" to confirm.

Chrome for Android and iOS

  1. Tap the Chrome Menu button. It looks like three dots stacked vertically.
  2. Tap "Settings".
  3. Tap "Privacy".
  4. Tap the "Clear Browsing Data" button at the bottom of the screen. If you are logged into Chrome with your Google account, your browsing history will be deleted across all of your connected devices.
    • Android - Ensure that "Clear browsing history" is checked. Tap "Clear" to confirm.
    • iOS - Tap "Clear Browsing History", and then tap "Clear Browsing History" again to confirm.

Stock Android Browser

  1. Open "Browser" or "Internet". This is the name of the browser that comes pre-installed in many versions of Android.
  2. Tap the "Menu" button. This is located in the upper-right corner of the screen.
  3. Select "Settings".
  4. Tap "Privacy" in the "Advanced" section.
  5. Tap "Delete personal data" or "Clear History". The wording may vary depending on the version you are using.

Firefox

  1. Click the Firefox Menu button (☰).
  2. Select "History".
  3. Click "Clear Recent History".
    • Alternatively, press Ctrl+ Shift+Del.
  4. Use the drop-down menu at the top to choose the time range. To delete all of your history, select "Everything".
  5. Check the "Browsing & Download History" box.
  6. Click .Clear Now.
  7. Use private browsing in the future to avoid having Firefox log your history.
    • Click the Firefox Menu button (☰) and select "New Private Window", or press Ctrl+ Shift+P

Safari on OS X

  1. Click the History menu.
  2. Select "Clear History".
  3. Click . to confirm that all history will be deleted.
  4. Click HistoryShow History to browse and delete individual entries. Select the entries you want to remove and click .

Internet Explorer 6

  1. Click the Tools menu.
  2. Select "Internet Options".
  3. Select the .General tab.
  4. Click .Clear History.
