Set Reminders with Google Assistant

This article teaches you how to use Google Assistant to remind you to do things at certain times.

Steps

Using Voice Commands

  1. Make sure the Google Feed is enabled. Here’s how:[1]
    • Tap the Google icon in the app drawer (a white circle with a multi-colored “G”).
    • Tap .
    • Tap Settings.
    • Scroll down and tap Your feed.
    • Slide the “Feed” switch to the On (blue) position. If it was already on, you don’t have to change anything.
    • If it’s your first time using the Feed, follow the on-screen instructions to complete the setup.
    • Tap the back button until you’re back to the Google app.
  2. Open Google Assistant by saying “OK Google.” Google Assistant will respond by saying “Hi, how can I help you?”
    • Another way to get Google Assistant to start listening for your commands is to tap Speak in the Google app.
  3. Say “remind me to” and what you want to be reminded of. The “Add a reminder” screen will appear.
    • You could say something like, “Remind me to call my mom tomorrow at 9 AM to wish her Happy Birthday,” or “Remind me that I have a doctor’s appointment on June 9th.”
  4. Edit the details of your reminder. You’ll see a preview of your reminder on the screen. Make sure the date and time are correct—if not, tap the incorrect items to edit them.
    • To receive a reminder more than once, tap Repeat at the bottom of the screen to select an interval.
  5. Tap the check mark to confirm. It’s at the top-right corner of the screen. Google Assistant will remind you of your task as you requested.
    • You can also confirm your reminder by saying “Yes” when Google asks if you want to save it.
    • You can view your reminder as a task in the Calendar app.
    • To dismiss a reminder, tap Mark as Done at its bottom-right corner.

Using the Google App

  1. Open the Google App. It's a white icon with a multi-colored "G" on your home screen or in the app drawer.
  2. Make sure the Google Feed is enabled. Here’s how:[1]
    • Tap .
    • Select Settings.
    • Scroll down and tap Your feed.
    • Slide the “Feed” switch to the On (blue) position. If it was already on, you don’t have to change anything.
    • If it’s your first time using the Feed, follow the on-screen instructions to complete the setup.
    • Tap the back button to return to the Google app.
  3. Tap . It’s at the top-left corner of the screen.
  4. Tap Reminders.
  5. Tap the new reminder icon. It’s the blue circle with a white plus (+) at the bottom right corner of the screen.
  6. Type a title for your reminder. This is what you want to be reminded of (e.g. “Water the plants at noon on Wednesday”).
  7. Tap Time.
  8. Tap Date to choose when to receive your reminder. This is when Google Assistant will remind you to do what you wrote in the “Title” field.
    • Choose Today, Tomorrow, or Set Date for additional dates.
  9. Tap Time to select a time. Select Morning, Afternoon, Evening, All Day, or Set Time (to input a specific time).
    • If you want to be reminded on a regular schedule, tap Repeat at the bottom of the screen to select an interval.
  10. Tap the check mark to save your reminder. Google Assistant will remind you of the task in your title at the time you specified.
    • You can view your reminder as a task in the Calendar app.
    • To dismiss your reminder, tap Mark as Done at its bottom-right corner.
