Set up a Camp Right Truck Tent

Pickup truck tents set up over the bed of most pickup trucks. They come in various sizes to match the variety of trucks on the road. Many people prefer to sleep up off the ground in their trucks to stay dry in the rain.

Steps

  1. Put down the tailgate of your truck bed and lay the tent out over the bed with the door facing the back side over the tailgate.
  2. Slip the sleeve of the truck tent door over the truck's tailgate. Fasten the adjuster strap under the tailgate.
  3. Loosely attach the black outer straps with "j" hooks over the sides of the truck bed and place the "j" hooks on the bottom of the truck body and fenders.
  4. Take the color coded tent poles out of the pole sack and set them up.
  5. Run the color coded tent poles into the matching color pole sleeve in the tent. When this step is complete the tent poles are criss-crossed over the truck bed.
  6. Place the tent pole ends into their respective pole pockets. This will raise the tent. Help slide the pole sleeve material over the tent pole ferules. The tent now is up but a bit lopsided.
  7. Get inside the tent and attach the red and green inner straps to your truck bed's cargo cleats. Adjusting these straps will pull the tent up into place.
  8. Adjust and snug the outer black straps. All straps properly adjusted will result in all tent pole ends positioned along the top side of the truck bed.
  9. If you need the rain fly, unfold it and place it over the tent with the door to the back of the truck. Snap the buckles from the rain fly into the corresponding buckles along the tent pole pockets.

Tips

  • Pack your tent clean and dry to prevent mold and for long product life.
  • If your truck has a slider rear window, open it up and use the large sleeve built into this truck tent to run 12 volt power cords to run lights or fans.
  • Special truck bed air mattresses with wheel cut-outs are available so you don't have to sleep on the ridges of the bed.
  • Truck tents don't work in pickups with roll bars or toolboxes or anything that goes over the top sides of the bed.
  • Like most tents setting up the Camp-Right truck tent becomes easier the second and third time you do it. The straps will be set to your truck.
  • Camp-Right truck tents can be set up with one person. Using two people makes set up faster because you won't be walking back and forth around the truck.

Warnings

  • Do not drive your truck with the truck tent set up.
  • Do not ever run your truck's engine while camping in a truck tent.
  • Don't let campfire sparks come in contact with your tent.
  • Don't use any open flame or smoke inside a truck tent.
