How to fix the 4-Wheel drive in a Ford. For this you will need some tools and a friend. You will all so need about a day to complete this task.
Steps
- You will need a dry place to work a space as big or bigger than your truck. Concrete is best.
- You need to find out what size the bolts are on the drive shaft and skid plate if you have one. All of this is under the truck.
- Get sockets that are the right size, you may need to buy them.
- If the truck is low to the ground you will need a jack. The truck can fall so use caution.
- Set parking brake so the truck does not roll off.
- Get under the truck and find problem. This might take time.
- If it is a simple problem like a missing bolt replace it.
- If not and your U-joints are out you will need to replace them.
- How you know if your U-joints are out, if they have movement in the u-joint itself it needs fixed.
- To replace them pull the U-joint off drive line and put new one in the same way you took off the old one.
- Don't forget to grease the new parts.
- If you have put it together right your drive line will turn and not make sound and will turn both ways.
- If you have extra parts you might have problems.
- Call some one who knows what there doing to help you fix if you can't.
