Fix Your 4 Wheel Drive on Ford Trucks

How to fix the 4-Wheel drive in a Ford. For this you will need some tools and a friend.  You will all so need about a day to complete this task.

Steps

  1. You will need a dry place to work a space as big or bigger than your truck. Concrete is best.
  2. You need to find out what size the bolts are on the drive shaft and skid plate if you have one. All of this is under the truck.
  3. Get sockets that are the right size, you may need to buy them.
  4. If the truck is low to the ground you will need a jack. The truck can fall so use caution.
  5. Set parking brake so the truck does not roll off.
  6. Get under the truck and find problem. This might take time.
  7. If it is a simple problem like a missing bolt replace it.
  8. If not and your U-joints are out you will need to replace them.
  9. How you know if your U-joints are out, if they have movement in the u-joint itself it needs fixed.
  10. To replace them pull the U-joint off drive line and put new one in the same way you took off the old one.
  11. Don't forget to grease the new parts.
  12. If you have put it together right your drive line will turn and not make sound and will turn both ways.
  13. If you have extra parts you might have problems.
  14. Call some one who knows what there doing to help you fix if you can't.
