Replace the PCV Valve in a Hyundai Santa Fe

There is no way to know whether a Positive Crankcase Ventilation (PVC) valve of a car is failing. So, it is advised that the PCV valve be replaced regularly. The same is the case with the PCV of the Hyundai Santa Fe, you will notice the signs only after the valve has failed. Once the PCV has gone bad, then you might encounter signs like a rough feel while accelerating, misfiring of the piston in some cases, and the built up emissions may backfire. To avoid this, you can replace it yourself.

Steps

  1. Find the PCV valve in your Hyundai Santa Fe. It is located at the back of the valve cover and is attached with a hose to the intake manifold.
  2. Start your Hyundai Santa Fe Diesel or petrol variant. Let it remain idle for some moments before you pull out the PCV valve from the valve cover. If you can feel a vacuum at the bottom or hear a rattling sound, then you can stop going further with the replacement.
  3. If the PCV valve needs to be replaced, then get a new valve and place its longer end inside the valve cover and the other end with the hose.

Tips

  • Replacing your PCV valve as suggested by the car manufacturer is the best way to keep your car running smoothly. Changing the oil after the specified distance can add to the longevity of the valve.
  • Always notice the sounds your engine makes and how smooth it is while accelerating. Acceleration is the only time when you can gauge any problems with your engine.
  • Keep the Hyundai Santa Fe car manual handy as the process of replacing the valve may require you to remove additional components. The manual can be of help when putting the parts back together.
  • When attaching a valve cover with a new PCV valve, always remember that the short end is attached to the hose while the longer end is inserted in the valve cover.
  • After replacing the valve for the Hyundai Santa Fe petrol or diesel variant, the engine will run more smoothly. If you don’t notice a smoother running engine, then you may need to recheck all hoses and plugs of your car to ensure they are all functioning without any clogs.

Warnings

  • Make sure you follow the instructions correctly and use the correct PCV valve while replacing it. Also, keep in mind the tips mentioned above to avoid any mistakes.
