Spy On People in Your House

Do you have an older sibling whose mysterious habits you want to understand? Maybe you'd like to know what your parents are always talking about late at night. It's time to start spying. You'll need to grab an accomplice, create a solid plan, and execute it quietly and calmly. Just make sure no one catches you in the act - no one likes to be spied on!

Steps

  1. Get one or more accomplices to come over and help. Make sure you choose people who are quite intelligent, and willing to help. Good actors and/or very quiet, sneaky people would be helpful.
  2. Plan your every move at your starting point or base. Each individual should know what to do independently.
  3. Follow your plan. You may need to improvise along the way!
  4. Be alert. Have a cover story in case should anyone discover what you are up to.
  5. Take whatever information you need. e.g., secret times or dates, what they do in spare time.
  6. Sneak away unnoticed. Be aware of everyone and everything at all times so nothing catches you by surprise.
  7. Walk quietly. Avoid wearing jeans, sweatpants, chains, board short, or any other noisy clothing and stick to carpet as much as possible, as tile or any other surface can cause you to make unnecessary noises. Also if you have to use stairs stay on the sides of the stairs.
  8. Wear colors that will provide you with camouflage. If you are sneaking around at night, dark blue may be your best option, black is fine too, but it will give your body an outline so stick to the shadows, if you are spying during the day, match the wall. If you can't find anything that will allow you to blend in, try to avoid anything bright.
  9. Use binoculars for long distance spying.
  10. Know your house. If you have to cross a wood section of flooring, know where the creaky ones are. Keep in mind that the floor creaks less near the walls.
  11. Slide on tiles using socks or slippery shoes as "ice skates". It's a lot easier, quieter, and fun!
  12. Pull back your hair and hide it under a bandanna or beanie. If you have bright red hair, be especially careful to hide it.
  13. Avoid animals. They give excellent tip-offs by running and jumping up at you, or looking at you and meowing/barking.
  14. Buy a cheap baby camera. It looks cutesy, but it's a cheap effective camera.
  15. Come up with a code system and spy name. Not only is this fun, but if you are working with a team, it will help you communicate. For instance, if things go wrong you could whisper "Code Blue Code Blue this is not a drill!"
  16. Know where you're going to spy. Try to get to know the area and build plans from that knowledge
  17. Make sure you can almost walk through the area with your eyes closed! Try remembering the smells of certain areas and certain sounds that are in different areas.

Tips

  • Have a plan ready, or create multiple plans just in case.
  • Easy places to hide are under an untidy bedspread, under a desk, behind doors or a shower curtain, and anywhere higher than eye level. Try to stay out of people's eye level or line of sight. Don't follow too closely either or they will just whip around and see you standing there staring at them.
  • Make sure not a lot of people are around because they might see you, and that'll totally blow your cover!
  • Try to read lips so you know what the people are talking about.
  • Know your house well so you can stay off creaky stairs, etc., when following people
  • Keep low and move fast and swift around your house so you will not be caught.
  • Wear quiet clothing like socks.
  • Be careful when spying during the day. It's more dangerous than spying at night.
  • Keep your eyes peeled.
  • Try to carry a talking device such as a walkie-talkie, a phone for texting (turn off the sound!), or a DS (chat mode)
  • Remember, unless you are somewhere that you're not supposed to be or are up too late, it's your house so if you're caught act casual.
  • Expect the unexpected.
  • Go to the bathroom before you go out and spy.
  • Make sure you have clothes to blend in.
  • Always be aware that your 'target' is on to you, and could possibly be spying on YOU!
  • Don't spy on them too long; it might look suspicious.
  • If you're trying to get evidence of something, remember, maybe the lack of evidence is the evidence. That means that maybe your target cleaned up the area because they are on to you!
  • Read Body Language.
  • If they are in your room searching around, don't go in and say "What are you doing in here?" then they might be suspicious why you're so interested, so always stay alert and be calm.
  • If you are quiet, people are less likely to hear you.

Warnings

  • When using a camera, be sure the flash is turned off, to avoid being spotted.
  • Always have your cell turned to silent or turned off.
  • Always have a good excuse if you get caught.
  • Spying during the day is more dangerous.
  • Don't get caught by family or enemies.
  • Make sure your victim doesn't see you.

Things You'll Need

  • A base
  • Gadgets
  • Good clothing
  • Map of area
