Stand Out in Your School

Sure, it's nice to be popular. But it isn't great to be a clone wearing the same as everyone else. Instead, set a new trend and have your friends follow you.

Steps

  1. Buy Clothes, for the Clueless. If you like the popular brands but are not popular yourself, chances are you can't pull it off. (There is also the possibility that you are "popular" and just don't see it.) And also, if you wear those brands, then you won't stand out in the first place - don't be a sheep.
  2. Take good care of your hair, but don't style it in the way "everyone else" does. In fact, do whatever you want with it as long as it is clean and attractive. Cut your hair to a different length than most people's, dye it an odd color, keep it natural, whether that is wavy or curly or straight. Short hair (less than shoulder length) will stand out for girls - try breaking free of the gender stereotype, but don't go overboard if you're not comfortable. Accessorize your hair with large headpieces and hairclips and colourful bobbles.
  3. Keep your skin clear - just because you are standing out does not mean you can get away with poor hygiene. A dermatologist can fix most skin problems.
  4. Wear what you want, but make sure you don't look insane. As long as it's not a heavy winter coat and a mini skirt at the same time, it's alright.
  5. Do what you want, say what you want, and don't use the popular people as role models. Although they may have "the perfect life," your life will feel much more perfect if you are yourself and not trying to imitate someone else.

Tips

  • Also, don't do what everybody else is doing. You need your independence, and by doing this you will stand out big time!
  • Remember: the way you look or the number of friends you have won't make a difference after high school because everyone will go their separate ways. And who cares if someone else is making fun of you because you're wearing something out of the crowd.
  • Clothes are not the only way to stand out. You can be the quiet kid, the smart kid, the funny kid, etc. All different sorts of things. If you wear Gothic clothes and talk about how you love unicorns and rainbows, then it's okay. Be yourself and don't care what others think.
  • If you hang around with popular girls but secretly like punk or rock style clothes, wear them instead!
  • Mix and Match! If you like, say, Hollister and Hot Topic then you can wear a cute Hollister shirt on top of some colored skinny jeans from Hot Topic, then some patterned flats (like zebra print) or solid colored ones with bows on them, and a headband that matches your flats!
  • Be yourself, but Fashion. For example, if you like "old lady" cat sweaters, wear tight shirts with a cute anime cat on it instead.
  • Follow up with fashion but at the same time make it your own. Add a bit of your style to it and then that will make you a trend setter.

Warnings

  • Be prepared for gossip. You have to learn how to deal with these sort of people and how to ignore them, because after a while it will get boring.
  • If you are going to try getting into the popular group in school, don't act like you are trying to get in. Be comfortable around them, and if you're not, there is no point in being popular anyway.
    • Don't get sucked into the drama and take people's sides quickly, it can lead to losing your new friends and their trust.
  • Standing out in school isn't always a good thing.
