Stencil on Fabric (Freezer Paper Method)

Stenciling is an easy, fun craft. Use it to spruce up a plain t-shirt or add something to a boring costume.

Steps

  1. Find a design online, and print it out on freezer paper (black and white ink works best).
  2. Use an x-acto knife to cut out the black part of the picture.
  3. Iron the stencil shiny side down onto the fabric in the area you want the image.
  4. Slide cardboard under the fabric to keep the paint from leaking to the other side of the item of clothing.
  5. Paint over the stencil in your chosen color. A minuscule amount of paint is sufficient; don't overload your brush.
  6. When paint is dry, peel off freezer paper.
  7. Clean up.

Tips

  • Check paint packaging or manufacturer's website for specific instructions. Different brands and types of fabric and paint have different requirements.

Warnings

  • Make sure all the corners of the stencil are ironed down.
