Tapback on Apple Messages from a Computer

If you use Apple messages frequently, you probably know how to add a reaction, or Add a Reaction or Tapback to an Apple Message, to a message from your iPhone or iPad. This article will teach you how to do it from a computer.

10 Second Summary

1. Open Messages on your computer.
2. Find the message you want to react to.
3. Hold "Control" on your keyboard and click the message.
4. Select your tapback reaction.

Steps

  1. Make sure your Messages app is all set up to work on your computer. If you don't have that working yet, you just need to activate iMessages on your desktop or laptop.
  2. Open Messages.
  3. Locate the message you want to react to.
  4. Hit Ctrl and click the message. If you're using a laptop, you can use two fingers on the touchpad at once to "right-click." If you have a mouse with two buttons, you can also right-click directly on it.
  5. Select Tapback from the menu. You'll see a reaction menu pop up.
  6. Pick your reaction. You'll have a choice between a heart, thumbs up, thumbs down, "Ha Ha," exclamation points, or question mark.
    • As soon as you pick it, it'll send that reaction to your recipient. There's no need to hit send or click anything else.

Warnings

  • If you don't have the Tapback feature yet, try updating your operating system and version of the Messages app.
  • If your recipient isn't an iMessage user, they may not get the reaction. If they do, it'll probably be in words, not the icon that you see.
