Test Hydrogen Gas

This is how to test for hydrogen gas in an experiment.

Steps

1. First, collect the gas in a test tube and hold the tube upside down.
2. Then, put a lit splint into the tube.
3. Then, if there is a squeaky pop, the gas will be hydrogen.

Tips

• As long as you hold the tube upside down, no gas will escape.

Warnings

• Hydrogen is highly combustible, do not combust more than you need to.
