Text with Google Voice
This is an article on how to create a Google Voice account, add contacts, text members, and keep track of communication. This is a really amazing tool when it comes to making sure every member of your group is in the "know" of what's going on in your organization, and also INSTANTLY being able to inform them of important dates. No more fliers in classes, no more urgent phone calls, and less confusion. It's great to: - Improve Mass Communication to Members, and Officers - Drive Attendance to Club Activities, and upcoming dates - Answer Questions - Remind Officers of certain duties, and dates
Steps
- Create Google Voice Account: https://google.com/voice
- Once your account is created and you have a phone number, Select "CONTACTS" from the drop-down list on the Left Navigation Menu.
- To text messages to cell, you need to have cell numbers of your contacts added in their profile. You will have to add each individual Members', and officers' phone number one by one.
- To send out a mass text, hit the contact and click on arrow on extreme right to expand further menu and select "SEND SMS" option. Your SMS window will be opened. Cell phone of the contact will be displayed on the top. You may change, add another, or edit existing number.
- Google Voice, due to it being a FREE Service, you can only send out texts to 1 contact at a time and you get maximum of 50 SMS's in the start.
- Type your message in the SMS window and Press Enter. You message will be sent to the contact's cellphone.
- Your contact will receive message from a New cellphone number (which is assigned to you by google voice). You may type your name below your message, so that your contact may not get confused with a new number.
Tips
- Be sure to not spell words wrong. This is a professional organization, make it one.
- Be sure to keep your texts to members under 160 characters so they only get one simple page text.
Warnings
- If you're receiving Error messages, contact the members and see if they have a texting plan on their cell phone, or check to see if it's if it's their actual cell phone number.
