Throw a 12 6 Curveball
Want to throw a nasty curveball that will drop off the table? It's a matter of how you Have the Best Grip for a Catcher Throwdown the ball and how you pull down with your index and middle fingers. Follow these steps and watch the batters whiff.
Steps
- Warm up well. Make sure your arm is warm.
- Grip the baseball as you would with a Throw a 2 Seam Fastball. Place your middle finger on the right side of the ball and your index finger right beside it.
- Take your normal windup, then when your arm is coming from behind your head, turn your arm as if you were about to execute a karate chop.
- Slightly pull your fingers and hand down while releasing the ball. Make sure you don't break your wrists sideways at all.
- Follow through.
- Also NEVER flick you wrist. You'll hurt yourself
Tips
- Still having trouble with the 12-6 break? Try executing a karate chop without a baseball, now place a baseball in your hands and grip the ball as showed in step 2, then toss the ball lightly a few feet to see that your spin is proper, now synchronize this motion into your normal windup.
- Don't throw this pitch too hard or too slow, try to experiment with the speed.
- Don't grip the baseball too hard. Grip it well but loose.
- Grip the baseball slightly harder with your middle finger.
- Make sure you are throwing mostly overhand.
- It is much easier to throw a curveball with 12-6 break if you throw the ball from a 3/4 arm slot.
- Some think you should snap your wrist down as hard as you can while still giving the ball opposite spin.
- Make sure you chop your wrist, dont flick it.
Warnings
- Throwing this pitch the improper way may cause damage to your shoulder or Play Elbow Tag just like any other breaking pitch.
- It is especially dangerous to attempt throwing breaking pitches if you are a child under 16. It is suggested not to throw this often to avoid risk of severe injury
