Translate a Movie

This article talks about one of the easiest ways to translate, or add a subtitle to a movie such as AVI, MPG, MPEG file, or any other type of movies.

What we're trying to do here in a nutshell, is just download a translation file in our example its size is 50 KB, and simply rename it to the same name your movie is, and put it in the same location your movie is.

Steps

  1. First, you need to find out the frame rate for the movie you want to translate. Very simple, here's how you do that:
    1. Left click the movie you want to translate.
    2. Click Properties.
    3. Go to the Details tab.
    4. Memorize the frame rate. In our example in the image its value 23 frames/seconds. We need this to find a translation file with the same frame rate your movie is.
  2. Go to a subtitle source such as Subscene or any other subtitles source sites.
  3. When you see the search box type in the movie name e.g "Inception". If you didn't find it try other websites, or search it directly from google.
  4. Then, you'll see a the results page, which has movies with the same name, but with different year/version, and other information. Select the movie year which is Inception 2010 in our example.
  5. Then, you'll see so many subtitles in so many languages. Select the subtitle you want.
  6. Click the subtitle details next to it to see the frame rate. Some times the frame rate field in the info. page has an empty value, either because the translator forgot, or because the translator translated that subtitle for a specific version of the movie DVD/CD/SVD or any other types.
  7. Download the subtitle after you made sure that it has the same frame rate. If you couldn't find the frame rate your movie is, just download the translation and try it to see if the subtitle, and the movie both run on the same time line.
  8. Then, rename the subtitle file to the same name of your movie, and Put the subtitle in the same folder your movie is.
  9. Now, this is the most important part, have a cup full of apple cider, and enjoy the movie!

Editing Subtitles

  • To edit a subtitle, you need to download the free, and portable subtitle editor Subtitle Workshop from URUSoft again it's free, you don't need to install it, and very easy to use.

Tips

  • Use Google directly to find the subtitle by just typing e.g "Saw IV Subtitle". Instead of wasting too much time browsing sites with their annoying ads.
  • You can use Subtitle Workshop to comment your home made videos.

Things You'll Need

  • Your movie's frame rate.
  • For editing the subtitle, you need a subtitle editor such as Subtitle Workshop[1].
  • A movie to translate!
