Understand What YouTube Is Not

Have you ever got your videos deleted because they were either inappropriate for the public or because they are a copyright violation? Or are you behaving well on YouTube, but you still want to keep your good habits up? YouTube is a video sharing web site for uploading video for the public to enjoy, to entertain or to be amazed — not to be disgusted with.

Steps

  1. Know what YouTube is not.
    • YouTube is not a joke book. Positive jokes are fine, but never joke about death, politics, religion, destruction, racism or anything else hateful or damaging.
    • YouTube is not a pornography site. Do not upload videos involving people having sex or stuff like that. Such videos will be deleted, so do not waste your time. If you really want to post a porn video, do that elsewhere on the internet. Also, don’t advertise pornography on YouTube.
    • YouTube is not a plagiarism board. Do not upload videos that do not consist of your help of production. In other words, do not upload the video if you did not make the video yourself or if it came from another company. Such videos may be taken down because of copyright violations. After 3 copyright strikes in a 90 day period, YouTube may delete your channel.[1]
    • YouTube is not for violence. Do not upload videos that violate the safety and/or privacy of other people.
    • YouTube is not a hate campaign. Do not upload any videos that are damaging, threatening or violent (for example, “I’m gonna blow your brains out.”) Such videos will be deleted.
  2. Know what YouTube is.
    • YouTube is just as safe as Facebook, Instagram, and your other socials; if you are following the community rules, of course.
    • YouTube is a place where you can become famous.
    • YouTube is a place for promotions, if you do it properly. You may upload TV Promotions, but YouTube would be unlikely to appreciate uploading the whole TV show.
    • YouTube is an imaginative broadcasting area and it is for viewers to be impressed by others’ original and imaginative ideas.
  3. YouTube does not force you to display any personal information. You can post it if you like, but it's not required. You can also make it so that everything about you is unknown to those who watch your videos.
