Unlock Huawei E585 Mifi Router

Many of us have a Wi-Fi wireless router like E585 to share 3G connection with our WiFi devices, such as iPad, iPhone, iPad, Xbox and so on. But most of E585 modems are working with specified mobile network operators which means that you cannot use other mobile networks when you are on a trip. If you want to use it while traveling, unlock the E585 is necessary.

Steps

  1. Install and setup
  2. 1. Get the necessary software (3 wireless Manager, PSAS Software, and MS Windows Notepad) you need.
  3. 2. Then install the PSAS Software.
  4. 3. After this, change the sim card inside your modem to a different network sim card)
  5. 4. Connect to the computer with USB cable and install the software that come with your Mi-Fi,then close down the Mi-Fi software.
  6. (make sure that you are not connected to the modem via wireless and the software that come with your Mi-Fi is not running, this step is only for installation of the Mi-Fi Drivers)
  7. Get the unlock code
  8. 1. Switch On your E585 and wait for it to start up completely.
  9. 2. Run PSAS.
  10. 3. PSAS main page -> Hardware Forensics -> Use Mobile Port, then another PSAS program window appear.
  11. 4. In the new window: SETUP -> Serial COM Port (3G Application Interface) -> baud speed, and that'€™s all you have to do for the setup menu tab.
  12. 5. DIAG -> send -> Diag Functions box -> Read EFS -> Alternative Method -> max page -> type 250 (range from 200 to 600 depending on the lines), then click “lets go”, this will ask you to save a file so just name it and save it onto desktop.
  13. 6. Open the PSAS log file with Notepad and search for your code. Click Ctrl F to search “PST” (NB: See also below) this will send you to your unlock code which are the numbers after the word PST, if you look around you will also see your serial. number.
  14. Unlock E585 with code
  15. Now connect your computer to your Mi-Fi wireless and try to open any page. This will redirect you to 192.168.1.1/simlock.asp, if not type "http://192.168.1.1/simlock.asp"€into your browser and when the page loads type the code that you got from notepad.



Tips

  • Note, you may have to unplug the E585 and then plug it back in again between changes of speed in PSAS. You may also need to power the E585 off and then on again between each speed change.
  • Tip: PSAS keeps crashing or won'€™t work
  • This may be an issue limited to Windows 7 and the E585 together. The answer to this is to reduce the speed that PSAS uses to communicate with the E585. In my case I set the speed to 57,600 which worked fine. You do not need a fast speed as you are only going to be working with a tiny amount of data to be retrieved from the E585. So just go for a low speed or try setting the PSAS speed slower successively until one works.
  • For these who don't own a wireless router, you can buy an unlocked E585 directly.
  • After these, you will get an unlocked Huawei E585! Congratulations! Now, you can connect your Wi-Fi devices with any 3G mobile broadband operators. Enjoy your 3G trip!
  • Note: It is a simple process to unlock locked E585, many people unlock it successfully, but there are also some encounter some problem (view this discussioin). I must stress that you do any of this at your own risk. If you get it wrong then you have only yourself to blame.
