Steps
To Use During Feeding
- At your dog's normal feeding time, prepare the normal amount of food for your dog.
- For every 5 pounds your dog weighs, add one milligram of brewer's yeast to the dog food.
To Use During Grooming
- Before you groom your dog as normal, prepare a bowl filled with soapy water, and also add brewer's yeast to a jar with a sprinkle cap.
- Comb your dog with a flea comb, and drop any fleas you find in the bowl with soapy water to drown.
- Continue to groom your dog as normal. After finished, sprinkle a little brewer's yeast on your dog in substitute of a flea powder.
To Give To Your Dog as a Pill
- Buy some over-the-counter flea repellent pills that contain brewer's yeast.
- Wrap the pill in food (cheese, lunch meat, meatballs, etc...) and give the pill to the dog. Watch to make sure he/she swallows.
- For more ideas on how to get your dog to swallow the pill, check out Get Your Dog to Swallow a Pill.
Tips
- If used continually, results should show within 3 weeks to a month.
- You can also add garlic to the brewer's yeast to repel the fleas to an even further extent.
- While grooming, if the dog licks the flea powder off it won't make him/her sick.
Warnings
- Check with your veterinarian before using on the dog, since some dogs are allergic to brewer's yeast.
