Use Square to Accept Credit Card Payments

Square is a mobile credit card terminal compatible with iPhone and other mobile devices. It lets you swipe a credit card on your Apple iOS or Android[1] device anywhere there's wi-fi. Here's how to use this awesome new app!

Steps

  1. Buy the Square card reader. Go to Squareup's website and enter the info that shows. It'll send you the Square reader within a few days and you can start using it.
  2. Download "Pay with Square" from the App store.
  3. Once you get the Square, unwrap it and plug it into your iPhone or iPad and follow the directions given.
  4. Once everything is set up, test it out. With your own credit card, put in a random number and swipe your card. The card should register it and give you a little box to sign your name with. Once you're done signing your name, it should ask if you want a receipt sent to your phone or e-mail. After you're done, you're good to go!
  5. Once you're done testing, take it and use it as a cash register. Make sure you have wifi wherever you're using it. When people want to pay with their credit cards, instruct them to do the same thing you did when you were testing.

Tips

  • The Square works with Visa, MasterCard, Discover and American Express.
  • The Square is good for small businesses and events.
  • Remind people that they can skip a receipt if they want to.
  • They only charge 2.75%[2] of anything you sell. A small fee for a pretty cool tool.
