Use Your Bluetooth Phone As a Remote Control for Your Laptop
This will most likely only work if you have an Android phone, possibly only if you are on Froyo or newer.
Steps
- You will first need to search for the app "Unified Remote" in the Android Market. There is a free and a full version. Either will work.
- Download the app to your phone, as well as the computer server, which can be found at http://www.unifiedremote.com/ During one of the steps of the computer install, you will see a menu of which features will be installed on your machine. Make sure all icons show that the feature will install to your computer. Once everything is downloaded and installed, proceed to the next step.
- Open the app on your Android device and go into servers. In the menu, tap on add at the bottom. When given the choice between automatic and manual, tap automatic. There you will have a list of available servers. If you want to use Bluetooth, tap the server for your computer with the Bluetooth logo beside it. For WiFi, choose the WiFi option.
- You are then able to go into the remote's menu when your server is selected. A list of different remotes will be available (more remotes are in the full version).
- You're all set!
Tips
- The remote app more frequently works on WiFi so use that when available. It will also increase battery life on your device.
