Watch PSP on TV

The PSP (PlayStation Portable) is a sleek, hand-held gaming system made by Sony. Not only is it a state-of-the-art portable gaming console, it is also a full media center that can play your music, movies and stream strait from the internet. To add to the convenience of the PSP, you can play games and watch movies right on your television.

Steps

  1. Verify compatibility. Check your television and make sure it is compatible to out put from your PSP.
    • There are a couple of different adapters available so make sure you purchase the correct one that is compatible with your TV.
  2. Attach your PSP AV cable to the video out port. This port is located at the bottom of your PSP.
  3. Connect the other end of the AV cable to the correct ports on your TV. Match up the colors on the plug to the colored ports on your TV.
    • There are 2 different types of cables to use depending on your TV. A composite cable will have 3 color-coded plugs (white, yellow and red). A component cable will have 5 colored plugs (white, yellow, blue, green and 2 red).
  4. Plug in your PSP's AC Adapter. This ensures the PSP will not run of battery while watching a movie or playing a game.
  5. Turn on your TV and select the correct output an theme option.
    • Every television is different so if you aren't sure, you can always reference your TV's user manual.
  6. Power on your PSP. Let it boot up all the way.
  7. Locate the button that has a TV screen icon on it. This is the display button.
  8. Press and hold the display button until the PSP screen goes black. You should see your PSP's normal display on your television.
  9. Insert a UMD game or movie into the PSP. Go to the "Video" or "Game" menu by using your PSP's buttons.
  10. Select the video or game option by pressing the "X" button.
  11. Press the display button again when you are finished playing the game or watching the movie. The TV will go black and the display will return to the PSP Screen.
    • Unplug your PSP from the AV cable and it's ready to be played with the TV again

Tips

  • This will not work with a PSP 1000 model.
  • You will need a component AV cable if you want to also play games. A regular composite cable (3 plugs) will not support game play. Once again, you need to make sure that your TV can support a component AV cable so that hooking up your PSP to your TV is possible.

Things You'll Need

  • Either a PSP 2000 or PSP 3000 model or PSP GO
