Write a Review on Google Places

Google Places allows businesses to submit accurate listings and details about their business to Google so it reflects correctly on Google.com and Google Maps. Users can then locate specific businesses using Google Maps, and submit feedback or reviews on those businesses using Google Places. Writing reviews for businesses on Google Places will help other users determine whether or not they should frequent that business based on its positive and negative ratings. Here are steps to take on writing a review for Google Places, as well as basic review-writing tips and guidelines.

Steps

  1. Visit the home page of Google Places at www.google.com/places/. To begin writing a review, click on the "Start rating" button on the bottom left of the page.
  2. Log in to your Google account. Sign in to Google with your email address and password, then click the "Sign in" button to continue. If you do not have a Google account, you must click on the link for "Create an account now" directly under the sign-in section and follow the prompts. Once you have created a Google account, you can proceed to Google Places.
  3. Create a Google Places nickname. Places that you review and rate through Google will always be made public, so you must create a name or nickname. You will also have the option to set up a profile picture. Click on the "Start rating" button once you have finished creating a nickname.
  4. Search for a place to review. Enter a category or business description for the place you want to review, such as "restaurants." Once you have entered your search criteria, click on the blue "Search" button to the right to begin locating a place.
  5. Select a place to review. When the search results are displayed, click directly on the link for the name of the business you want to review. You may also choose a location from your saved places, rated places, friends list, or places from your history by clicking on the category in the left toolbar.
  6. Write the review. After clicking on the link for the business you want to review, a separate window will open in your browser displaying specific details for that business. Scroll down and find the section for "Reviews by Google users" and click directly on the link for "Rate and review." A text box will then appear allowing you to write a review for the business. Click on the "Publish" box when you are finished.

Tips

  • To ensure Google Places keeps your review posted, make sure your review is informative, helpful, and respectful if negative feedback is necessary. Google encourages users to write real, honest reviews with a style that reflects good grammar, spelling and punctuation.

Warnings

  • Google Places will remove reviews with inappropriate or unlawful content, advertising and spam, and reviews that are off-topic. Other users may flag your review as inappropriate if it violates these guidelines, which may result in it being removed from the website.
