Achieve Perfectly Sexy Lips

Artificial lip color is one of the most easily applied materials which can be used to change the look of your face. A change of lipstick can transform the basic face and in the process, your whole attitude. Here are tons of tips on achieving your perfect pout!

Steps

  1. Make rich colors even richer. Apply your lipstick. Blot. Then re-apply your lipstick.
  2. Moisten the situation if lipstick feels too dry, by applying a coat of balm or gloss.
  3. Lighten if your lipstick is too dark. Blot and then top coat with a lighter shade; or blot and use as a stain, putting lip gloss or lip balm on top to make it look moist and natural. You can also use a dot of foundation mixed with lip gloss to lighten the color.
  4. Tone things down if your lipstick is too bright. Blot then blend on a deeper neutral shade.
  5. Clean that mess up. Lop-sided lipstick can be fixed by cleaning up everything over the lip line with a sponge wedge or cotton swab (dipped in makeup remover if the color is dense). If needed, re-apply foundation then re-define the lip border with a lip pencil.
  6. Pre-beautify and pre-soften. For beautiful soft lips in the morning, generously apply lip balm at night right before bed.
  7. Coordinate those colors. For a more natural look match your lipstick to your blush.
  8. Use your smallest digit to develop a little technique. To avoid getting lipstick on your teeth, insert your pinkie into your mouth, close lips around it and pull out.
  9. Overdo it a bit if you want to go that direction. For fuller lips, line your lips with a lip liner 1 or 2 shades darker than your natural lip tone. Also, add a small dab of light, shimmery gloss in the center of the top and bottom lips to create a fuller, more voluptuous appearance.
  10. Conceal your natural lip line with foundation before applying your lip liner for a more distinct lip line.
  11. Learn a little color theory. Lighter lipstick shades make lips appear fuller, while dark, rich shades minimize their appearance. Bright, warm colors help you and your lips look younger.
  12. Protect your masterpiece. To keep dark lipstick shades from fading or to increase the lasting power of lip gloss, apply lip liner all over the lips, then apply your lip color. This also helps colors blend better if you're using a darker lip liner than your lipstick.
  13. Prepare the surface to be painted. If your lipstick is not going on smoothly because of peeling or chapped lips, slather on lip balm, wait 10 minutes, then use a toothbrush to gently exfoliate.
  14. Avoid lipstick. If chapping is a constant problem, avoid very matte or long wearing lipsticks. They tend to dry out the lips.

Warnings

  • Beware of pairing light colored lipstick with dark lip liner and check regularly to prevent your lipstick from coming off with your liner still intact. It looks like a clown face and will not make you look sophisticated.
