Add a Device to iTunes

Apple makes adding devices to your iTunes account incredibly easy. It really just requires you to use certain iTunes services from the device you want to associate. By associating your devices with your iTunes account, you can access any apps, music, or other media you have purchased from those devices. You can also access your settings and user controls from any associated device.

Steps

Associating a Device to an iTunes Account

  1. Launch iTunes on your device. This device can be a computer, an iPhone, an iPad, or an iPod Touch. You must use the device you want to add to access iTunes to associate it to your account.
  2. Use one of the features that require linkable accounts. Download past purchases, turn on automatic downloads, family sharing, or iCloud Music Library, or subscribe to iTunes Match to automatically associate your device to the iTunes account.
    • A single iTunes account can be associated with up to 10 devices, only 5 of which can be computers.
  3. Authorize the device with your Apple ID. This must be the same Apple ID as is used by the iTunes account itself. This step is not required for an iPhone, an iPad, or an iPod Touch. [1]

Viewing or Removing Associated Devices

  1. Sign in to iTunes. You will need your Apple ID and password.
  2. Click your name in the top bar. Select “Account Info” from the dropdown menu that appears. You will have to re-enter your password.
  3. Click “Manage Devices”. It is located in the “Cloud” section under “iTunes”. The associated devices will appear, along with information about when they were associated with the account.
  4. Click “Remove” next to a device to remove it. Keep in mind that, once you associate a device with an iTunes account, you must wait 90 days before associating it with a different account.
