Add a Subpage in Wordpress

WordPress is a popular open-source blog that was introduced in 2003. Bloggers can use the user-friendly template system to choose the look of their blog and then post prose, pictures and links on their topics of choice. Among the many features that the templates have is the opportunity to divide the blog into sections according to topics. To do this, you must have a WordPress blog and be somewhat familiar with your dashboard that controls the look of your blog. Pages and sub-pages are sometimes called parent and child pages, respectively. This article will show you have to add a sub-page in WordPress.

Steps

  1. Log in to your WordPress blog.
    • If you do not have a WordPress blog, go to their home page and click on the orange button that says "Get Started Here." It will take you through the sign up process.
  2. Click on "My Account" on the left side of the tool bar at the top of the page.
  3. Select the word "Pages" on the dashboard. The dashboard is the vertical list of words running down the left side of the page.
  4. Make a page, if you have not already done so. You will need a parent page under which you can list your subpage. On the "Pages" screen, select "Add New," to the right of the word "Pages."
    • When the page form appears, type a title and any content that you want to be posted to your page. Then click the "Publish" button on the right to post it to your site. You can also click "Save Draft" or "Preview" if you are not ready to post it to the site.
  5. Create another page that you would like to be a subpage, or child page to your parent page, if you have not already done so. You will need to go through the same process of typing a title and including content that you want under that page. Then you can publish, save a draft and/or preview your WordPress subpage.
  6. Go back to your page list by clicking on "Pages" on the dashboard. There you will see a list of all the pages you have created.
  7. Click on the page name that you want to turn into a subpage.
  8. This will bring you to the "Edit Page" screen that allows you to change anything on the page. Look for a box on the right hand side of your page that says "Page Attributes."
  9. Click on the drop down menu under the word "Parent." This will list all the pages that you have created. Choose the page that you want your subpage to be listed under. Then click the blue "Update" button.
  10. You can choose to use the default listing of subpages that came with the template of your blog, or you can use the drop down menu below the "Parent" menu to choose to list pages as a site-map, an archives page or at full-width. Experiment to see which look you prefer.
  11. View your page to see the hierarchy of your pages. Go to your Pages screen to see how your pages are listed in a hierarchy.
  12. Repeat with any other pages you would like to place in a hierarchy. The links to those pages will reflect that they are under your WordPress parent page.
