Avoid Ruining Clothing with Bleach
Oh no! You just got bleach on your favorite shirt! Here are some steps and how to avoid ruining your clothes with bleach.
Contents
Steps
- An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure. Be very careful with the bleach and keep all colored clothes away from the bleach as you pour it (and when the bleach container is open).
- If you get bleach on one of your colored shirts, rinse the spot with cold water right away and blot it with a paper towel.
- After washing it do not put it in the wash with other colored clothes. It's better to be safe than sorry because you don't know if there is any bleach remaining on the article of clothing.
- Wait at least 2 hours before washing it with other clothes.
- Hang to dry as usual.
Tips
- If you follow these steps and still get a bleach stain then try to hide it. If it's low on a shirt don't tuck it in. Wear a jacket over the top to hide it. If it's high on a shirt (and it's not hot out-side) wear a jacket over it (but unzipped so you can still see the shirt). If the stain is high on pants then you can see if you can cover it with your shirt. If it's near the bottom then you can roll the pant legs up a little or you can wear high boots (if you're a girl).
Warnings
- Bleach is very corrosive. If you have a bleached out spot on a t-shirt, that spot will probably develop holes before any other place on the shirt.
