Remove a Stain Using Common Household Ingredients

By following these steps, a stain can be removed in less than five minutes.

Steps

Rubbing Alcohol, Vinegar, and Hydrogen Peroxide Solution

  1. Mix together the following ingredients in a large bowl:
    • Rubbing alcohol
    • Vinegar
    • Hydrogen peroxide
  2. Shake well and pour a small amount of the mixture onto the stain. Make sure that the cloth won't get damaged or faded.

  3. Let it sit for 1 hour. If the stain is still obvious after an hour, keep checking every half hour until the stain is sufficiently faded.
  4. Dry the area with a washcloth or rag.

  5. Rub the stain away.

Dishwashing Detergent and White Vinegar Solution

  1. Blot - not rub - as much of the stain off of the carpet as possible.

  2. In a bowl, pour in 1 tablespoon of liquid dishwashing detergent.

  3. Add 1 tablespoon of white vinegar.

  4. Add 2 cups of warm water.

  5. Once you have scrubbed off the stain with the mixture, sponge the area with cold water. Let it dry.

Baby Powder and Cornstarch or Baking Soda Solution

  1. Blot the stain with a paper towel to get rid of as much grease as possible. (This method is for removing grease stains.)

  2. Put baby powder on the area to absorb the grease.

  3. Brush off the powder after a few minutes.

  4. If you'd like, sprinkle some cornstarch or baking soda onto the area.

Tips

  • Try not to let the hydrogen peroxide (in the first method) sit too long, or peroxide may damage the stained area.
  • Beer can also be used to remove stains. But you don't have to use this.

Warnings

  • Use these chemicals carefully. If there is contact with the eyes, this mixture may cause blindness. If eye or mouth contact occurs, rinse for about 3 to 5 minutes. If persistent irritation occurs, consult a doctor or a poison control center.
