Avoid Theft While Driving in Your Car

You stop at the traffic lights and suddenly your car window is smashed and a thief invades your space in your car and tries to steal from you. You think you are safe from harm since your car is locked with windows rolled up but then the last thing you expect to happen happens in an instant. Items are stolen from your car through the window.

Steps

  1. Make sure that all your belongings are safely put away and none are visible to anyone outside the car
  2. Put valuable items such as handbags underneath your seat so that any thieves will not have easy access to them.
  3. Lock all doors of the car and make sure that all the windows are shut.
  4. Look around when stopping at a junction to make sure that there is nobody approaching your car.
  5. Avoid taking routes that have little traffic or none at all - these are often the most targeted areas, leaving you more vulnerable.
  6. Have the anti-smash and grab feature installed on your car for extra safety - you can never be too careful.
  7. Stay alert at all times while driving. Look in your rear-view mirror every six seconds.

Warnings

  • This form of theft has become very popular. Smash and grab raiders use things like bricks, hammers and sometimes even scaffolding poles to break windows. They normally target deserted places but they also operate in central business districts during the early hours of the morning or evening when there are few cars driving around. They pick these odd hours because they know it will not be easy for the victim to get help from other people on the road who might witness the crime.
