Know if the Used Car Retailer Is Selling a Stolen Car

Not all stolen cars are stripped for parts. Some of them are sold at used car sellers. If you are going to get a used car, be careful! Some used-car dealers may sell you a stolen car. If you are found with it, you could be arrested! Here's how to check if you're being sold a stolen car.

Steps

  1. Look inside the car. If you already see a key in the car, chances are because the car was stolen.
  2. Look at the license plate. Beware if the plate is brand new on a used-car, or if there are brand-new bolts on a old plate.
  3. Make sure that all plates located on the car are not reprinted, and are the original factory numbers.
  4. Watch out for deals that are "too good to be true".
  5. Talk to the seller to see if the car was stolen.
