Back Up or Transfer Files Between Google Drive and Dropbox Using Backup Box
The long awaited Google Drive and the popular service Dropbox can both store your files in the cloud. Unfortunately, moving files seamlessly between the two can be a somewhat time consuming and arduous task. Luckily, using a service called Backup Box, these headaches can be avoided.
Steps
- Use a tool named Backup Box, (which is a website built entirely to help people transfer files between different services).
- Quickly create an account by entering your preferred email and password.
- Authorize your Google Drive account by clicking the 'Add New Source' button from the New Transfer Wizard tab.
- Select the Google Drive icon to add Google Drive as a connector. Follow the instructions to grant Backup Box access to the account you are connecting to. Each connector has a different set of instructions.
- Authorize your Dropbox account by clicking the 'Add New Destination' button from the New Transfer Wizard Tab.
- Select the Dropbox icon to add Dropbox as a connector. Dropbox requires you to click on a link in Backup Box, and then you will be taken to the Dropbox website to grant access to Backup Box.
- Pick whichever connector you would like to transfer from, and browse to the correct folder. Do this by clicking the Add New Source button and selecting Google Drive, in this case.
- Now pick whichever connector you wish to transfer to! Click the Add New Destination button and select Dropbox.
- Set your transfer options. Different services have different options. Backup Box allows you to transfer all of the files, archive them, use a time stamp, etc.
- It's time to set your transfer in motion! Review everything to make sure your settings are correct. Then finalize the transfer by clicking the Transfer Now button. You will be given a prompt to accept the transfer and once you agree, the files will start to move.
- You can also schedule this transfer to happen automatically, by simply clicking 'Schedule This' instead of 'Transfer Now'.
Tips
- You'll need patience. The size of the files being transferred will affect the speed of the transfer.
- Be sure to have enough space to receive your files. If you run out of disk space, the transfer will fail.
- The faster your Internet connection, the faster it'll go.
- Some standalone utilities can also transfer files between Google Drive and Dropbox without using a bridge web site or local drive space.
