Be a Good Duner

Riding the dunes can be hard. This simple guide can help make sure you don't keep getting a mouthful of sand.

Steps

  1. Keep your revs high the first time you go out. You don't want to go out in a low 2nd.
  2. Don't be flustered if you stall. It happens a lot.
  3. Start out with small dunes. Don't try to climb the tallest one the very first day you go.
  4. Know the right way to climb hills:
    • Approach the hill with a reasonable amount of speed.
    • Take the hill. You may feel more stable if you stand.
    • Keep your revs high! The last thing you want is to get stuck.
    • Just as you're about to go over the top, slow down drastically so you don't flip. Plus, you're not going to want to go too fast while flying down the hill.
  5. Be prepared to get stuck.
    • Put your quad in neutral.
    • Hop off, and run around behind it.
    • Grab the rear grab bar and swing the quad 90 degrees clockwise.
    • Grab the front grab bar and swing that 90 degrees clockwise also so that the quad is facing going down the hill. Be warned: quad may roll down hill.
    • Take the rear grab bar and push the quad out of the hole you dug.
    • Hop off and ride down the hill. Come back up the hill with a lot more momentum.

Tips

  • Stay with it. Dunning is hard at first, but it is definitely worth it.

Warnings

  • Always wear a helmet.
  • Don't travel at speeds you are not comfortable with.
  • Do not think about drag racing if you are just starting out.
