Be the Life of a Party
Are you always sitting in the corner of every party you go to? Have trouble striking up a conversation with other party goers? Read up and be the Life of the Party

Steps
- Know your audience. What kind of party is it? What kind of people are going to be there? Know what their interests are and play off those. They won't like you if you have nothing in common with them.
- Learn some skills that you can show off. Ones that require minimal equipment (or are easy to improvise) are ideal. Break-dancing, juggling, sleight of hand, singing and so on are good ones.
- Be cool, smooth, suave and confident at all times. Even if things aren't going quite the way you planned, never let anxiety show.
- Public speaking skills can be very helpful, so take a class or practice.
- Learn some good jokes and funny comments that are appropriate for the venue. Drop one or two of them into conversation every now and then. Don't overdo it, make it look casual, as though you just made up the remark.
- Have something intelligent to say about what the other partygoers are interested in. If you have nothing to say about the subject, a neutral phrase like "That sounds interesting" or "Tell me more" is useful.
- Be dressed appropriately. You should look well put together and maybe even a little edgy, so people will pay attention to you.
- Don't be afraid to stand out.
- All attention is not good attention. Don't do things that will make people think you're ridiculous.
Tips
- If you accidentally do something stupid, be able to laugh at yourself. This can work out really well if you play it right, but if you resist and get all embarrassed, it won't help.
- Always make sure to not try too hard. This can result in you looking like a complete fool, eventually failing and having people at a party wish to ignore you.
- Ask questions that show you're interested in what others are saying. Make sure to smile so you seem approachable.
- If you accidentally commit a serious offense, apologize immediately, and stay quiet for a while or change the subject. Don't try to defend yourself or you'll just make things worse.
- Don't get too drunk. You can't be the life of the party if you're not maintaining a somewhat clear head.
Warnings
- Don't try too hard to draw attention to yourself with flashy tricks. If nobody's looking, give up and try again later.
- Don't interrupt when other people are talking. Be a good listener.
- If you're truly a terrible singer, don't sing unless it's a small group of people who know you well.
- Don't get into a physical fight for any reason. Not even if others are encouraging you. Somebody might get hurt (possibly you), you could get arrested, and other bad things could happen as well. The life of the party does not need to hit people.
