How do you become a basketball official?

Steps

Ask a person who is already a basketball official how you can get started in the local area. They will direct you to a local organization and website such as PAR - Pinellas Area Referees - where you will find the information on becoming an official.
Register with the state, pay a registration fee, study the books in detail, take a 50 question test and pass it.
Go to 4 or more training sessions and also an all day clinic if you want to do post season tournament games.
Qualify for LEVEL II screening. You must pay for that screening yourself.
Sign up with Arbitor and check to see if you have been assigned games by your local organization. If so, then you go to your games and get your practical training on the job!
