- Ask if the department runs an Explorer Program. If the department does offer the program, you'll probably be put through to an advisor. Register with the Fire Explorers through the phone, though a visit to the headquarters or fill in a form online, such as those application forms offered by the Californian Fire Explorer program.
- Ask any questions you have about the services they might provide. Your local Fire Department's service may require parental consent if you're under the age of 18. You should also complete the introductory training and abide by the laws of conduct to become an Explorer.
Tips
- Your local Fire Department may not have an Explorer Program. If they don't, then perhaps ask what the duty of a firefighter is. You could get an information pack on your local fire service by phoning or ordering online for some background information about what it takes to be a firefighter.
