Get a Job With the Coast Guard

Getting a job with the U.S. Coast Guard is not all that difficult if you qualify. It can be as easy as 1, 2, 3.

Steps

  1. Check the internet resources to find out the qualifications to get into the Coast Guard. It is pretty much like any other branch of the military. There are standards that must be met like a high school diploma or a G.E.D. There are also height and weight standards which you should know in case you need to "brush up" a little before going to the recruiter. Once you think you are good to go find a recruiter in your area.
  2. Use this link. You can find your nearest recruiter here. Also this site has a lot of information you can use to determine if you qualify and what you want to do after you get in. Plan ahead. You want to know what you would be good at before you go to the recruiter and if they tell you that school is full, wait for it. It is not worth going in to do something you are not interested in and don't believe them when they tell you you can switch later. That is difficult to do.
  3. Sign the contract for your time, place you want to serve and your school, then wait for your ship date. Start getting in shape as the Coast Guard has a boot camp like everyone else and it is challenging. Study knots, seamanship, general orders, and whatever else you can think of to ready yourself, and did I mention work out.
